In The Crosshairs: Why We Need To Protect Endangered Cheetahs
The cheetah is one of the majestic animals of Africa. Unfortunately, they are at risk and endangered cheetahs need protection or the species will eventually be exterminated forever, depriving the future of seeing them.
What Makes Endangered Cheetahs Special?
The endangered cheetah is a land mammal and part of the cat family. What sets the cheetah out from the rest of the cats is its speed. The cheetah is the fastest land mammal and is spectacular to witness when in full flight. Cheetahs have been known to reach blistering speeds of between 112km/h and 120km/h when going full out, giving its prey very little chance of escape.
Why is the Cheetah Endangered?
Cheetahs need to be protected, so that it will not join the long list of extinct animals like the dodo. The cheetah is endangered for a number of reasons:
How to Help Protect Endangered Cheetahs
Endangered cheetahs need protection and everyone can do their part to protect this extraordinary animal. That’s not to say you have to physically go into the wild and protect the cheetah from its enemies – the average person can support their local wildlife funds and help create awareness.
There are many endangered cheetah sanctuaries around who give insight and tours of the cheetah. By supporting these sanctuaries and initiatives, you can help raise funds for cheetah research. They give educational talks and even allow visitors to interact with cheetahs, to see firsthand how magnificent these cats really are.
Support your local wildlife institutions and help make a difference in protecting endangered cheetahs, as well as other endangered wildlife species. Making the effort can save another species from going extinct.
Our volunteer programme is designed to introduce you to the fascinating wildlife African has to offer as well as the incredible cheetah, and to work closely in all aspects of reserve management.
