Cheetah Conservation Centre

Help Our Cheetah Conservation Centre And Make A Difference To The Plight Of The Cheetah

Our cheetah conservation centre's aim is to curb the decline in the cheetah population through a variety of initiatives and programmes.  We have been working with cheetahs since 2001 as part of the Savannah Cheetah Foundation and our own conservation centre was founded in 2009 as part of our ongoing commitment to cheetah conservation.  Our cheetah breeding programme has proven very effective and to date we have successfully bred and hand-raised twenty cheetahs in captivity, twelve of which have been sold to other local and international breeding programmes.

Numbers Still Declining

Successful though our cheetah conservation centre's breeding efforts have been in stopping organisations from taking cheetahs from the wild, their numbers are still declining.  As a further effort, we have embarked on an ambitious, three-phase reintroduction programme whereby we aim to release captive bred cheetahs back into the wild.  This is the first of any such project in the world and besides causing a stir and attracting a lot of interest; it is also an extremely exciting time for everybody involved.

How You can Help

You already help our cheetah conservation centre and the cause of the cheetah just by visiting our website and learning more about this amazing African cat.  Once you have educated yourself about the cheetah, its plight and the very real danger of its extinction, you will be able to pass that information on to family and friends and the process of educating people will be well underway.  You can also help by:

  • Visiting us at our conservation centre, 10 km from the town of Parys in the Free State and interacting with our ambassador cheetahs.
  • Making a donation to help us fund improvements to the cheetahs' facilities, breeding enclosures, cub raising facilities, the speedway and other vital equipment.
  • Adopting one of our cheetahs.  This exciting initiative is nearly ready, so contact us for more information.
  • Joining a volunteer programme at our conservation centre.  This programme has been designed to introduce you to the cheetah and give you a closer understanding of reserve management.

More Information on our Cheetah Conservation Centre

As we have noted, our conservation centre is situated near the town of Parys in The Dell reserve and it is home to a variety of antelope, including blesbuck, kudu, springbok, impala, blue wildebeest, black wildebeest and also zebra and giraffe.  The Dell is fully committed to conservation and besides our cheetah conservation programmes, they also run brown hyena and vulture projects.  You can even stay on the reserve, because they have comfortable accommodation available in the shape of lovely riverfront chalets.  In addition, a variety of leisure and adventure activities are offered through REAL Adventures.

Endangered Species

Help us save the cheetah today, because it is highly endangered due to several reasons:

  • Loss of habitat due to human encroachment
  • Loss of prey (ditto)
  • Hunting (incredibly, some people still hunt the cheetah)
  • Livestock protection (cheetahs do not hunt livestock, but uninformed farmers still kill them)

You can bake a difference to the plight of the cheetah by helping our cheetah conservation centre.
