Cheetah Conservation Fund: Protecting the Endangered Cheetah

The Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) is a wildlife conservation institute whose primary focus is to protect the endangered cheetah. Founded in 1990, they focus their resources on all spheres, including research, education and ecology. Through these principles, the Cheetah Conservation Fund is working to create a viable and sustainable model where all species – cheetah and man – will benefit.

Ways in Which CCF Makes a Difference

The cheetah is the fastest land mammal and a unique animal. It is endangered and needs to be protected or it will become extinct. There is no reversal of extinction – when an animal becomes extinct, there are no more left. The Cheetah Conservation Fund helps with the preservation of the cheetah in the following ways:

  • Research and Science – Biological and ecological data is analysed to study the cheetah’s ecosystem, biology, habitat and prey. Research is very important, as it provides cold, hard facts and scientific support to conservation policies. Tireless research goes into every idea and through knowledge sharing and investigation can solutions be made viable to help conserve the cheetah.
  • Education Programs – Many people are not aware that the cheetah is an endangered species and through education conservation institutions can raise awareness. Everyone has a role to play through essential education programs: ordinary people and big organisations. The cheetah has a big role to play in nature and in the tourism and wildlife industry. By educating people, they can understand and support the drive to save this big cat.
  • Conservation Programs – The main drive by a conservation agency is the actual conservation programs. This is on the ground work with cheetahs and local communities to make sure that the cheetah has a naturally ecology to live in and do not clash with farmers. There are several livestock and wildlife management techniques that are implemented to preserve the cheetah population. Local communities and farmers have to co-exist with the cheetahs and there needs to be a harmony and balance.
  • Eco Tourism – A growing trend is eco tourism where the public is taken on guided tours. These tours allow them to interact with cheetahs and provide education on how special these animals are. This often involves seeing cheetahs run at full speed, which is not always something that can be seen firsthand by humans.

By supporting the Cheetah Conservation Fund and institutions like it, you can help make a difference and join the crusade to preserve the magnificent cheetah.
